Healthcare Business International interviewed Nelson Advisors partner Lloyd Price discussing Healthbridge's acquisition of AI scribe Nora.
“The acquisition highlights a broader shift in the industry, as companies are leaning more toward acquisitions instead of building everything in-house,” Lloyd Price, partner at M&A advisory firm Nelson Advisors told HBI.
From an investment perspective, the focus is on clinical AI tools that can “demonstrate productivity and efficiency gains whilst growing their user base month after month.”
“Healthtech investors are adapting fast too. AI native startups now command higher revenue multiples (typically 9×–14×) thanks to their proprietary datasets and scalable automation potential. Exit timelines are tightening as well, with many “incubation‑to‑exit” deals wrapping up in under three years,” said Price.
“Altogether, valuations are breaking away from speculative tech trends and increasingly rewarding platforms that serve as core clinical operating systems rather than optional add‑ons,” he further added. Investors are increasingly focusing on metrics such as annual recurring revenue per clinician and outcome-based pricing that reflect “tangible clinical improvements” as value creation levers.
The acquisition also highlights the rapid growth in South Africa’s healthtech market. The digital health and AI scribe market is quickly “moving from a ‘nice to have’ to an essential tool across both private and public healthcare.”
