Nelson Advisors featured in First World HealthTech’s article ‘Technical requirements and specifications for Health Records’.

·       Apple has updated its Health Records and Share with Provider features to support HL7 FHIR R4, a widely used healthcare data-exchange standard that helps apps and hospitals share structured information with electronic health record (EHR) systems.

·       The tech giant did not make an official announcement about the new capabilities, but social media platforms, specifically LinkedIn, were abuzz about the upgrade, which allows certain Apple Health-aggregated data to flow more seamlessly into hospital EHR systems.

·       Healthtech consultancy Nelson Advisors highlighted in an article the advantages of having features that support FHIR R4: “The structured, resource-based design of FHIR R4 provides the ideal foundation for artificial intelligence applications. By moving data into standardised FHIR formats, organisations can increase interoperability from as low as 11% to 66%.”

·       Other comments about Apple’s quiet upgrade included the need to ensure clinicians do not get flooded by data, and for any data exchange to be done responsibly and effectively.
